Temple Marriage

A couple of weeks ago I taught a lesson on Temple Marriage. I had the cutest idea I thought I would share. I know I usually just steal others ideas but this one was my own! I made these cute Rubics Cubes. We talked about how it is important to decide now you want to be married in the Temple, and how if you don't it is sometimes hard to get back to Temple marriage. Just like the rubics cube. It's possible to get back there but it is difficult without direction. I had mixed up all the cubes the same way and at the begining of class handed them one to try to fix. They all got a couple of minutes with it while I was teaching. Then I gave them all their own and gave them directions on how to unjumble them. I think they really liked it. I also gave them this quote at the end of class: "I would admonish you to maintain an eternal perspective. Make certain that the marriage in you future is a temple marriage. There is no scene so sweet no time so sacred as that very special day of your marriage. Then and there you glimpse celestial joy. Be alert don't permit temptation to rob you of this blessing." President Thomas S. Monson

Here is the handout. I just printed it on a 4x6 and cut it to be square.

To make the rubics cube I printed off the pictures below on a 4x6(regular picture size). I bought the cubes at Dollar Tree. Cut the pictures to size of the squares. (this was easier that it sounds) The part that takes a long time is Modge Podgeing them to the rubics cubes. I think it was worth it though.

The YW loved it and I hope it made them realize how important it is to decide right now to be Married in the Temple.

YW Preisthood Handout

Today I got to teach the combined YW's Lesson on the Priesthood. What a great topic! I think this Mormon Messages sums it all up!

I'm so glad to have the Priesthood in my home!
I found this cute idea for a handout on sugardoodle and made them for the girls. It was really hard to find "Extra" Gum in the small packages (they don't make them anymore). I lucked out an found them at All A Dollar of all places. Then attached the Cinnamon Roll, wrapped in plastic wrap, to the back with ribbon.

Today in YW's the lesson was on being a peacemaker. I love this topic because it is a great reminder of how much better life is when you are being a peacemaker, and thinking of others first. I love this quote from Frankiln D. Richards about the great blessings that come from being a peacemaker.

“The blessed part of being a peacemaker is that those who are peacemakers and who live the gospel principles receive a testimony borne of the Holy Ghost. They enjoy the peace that surpasseth all understanding, relief from inner tensions, joy and happiness, contentment, growth, and development”
After reading this quote I always wonder why it is so hard to be a peacemaker. It comes with such great blessings! I finally decided it is because we are naturally selfish. It is the natural man in us that seems to come out and we have to work really hard at being the peacemaker, or the person our spirit wants us to be.
I gave my YW this challenge and hope they take it. I am!

This is how to make the bookmark so you can have one for yourself.
you will need:
A metal bookmark (you can find these at Hobby Lobby or if you need more than one I got mine from here)
Pins 45mm (these are at all craft stores that sell beads)
Stone Bead (I purchased mine from Roberts Craft)
Round picture frame Charm (They have these at most craft stores I got mine from here they used to sell a smaller quantity but I could not find it today)I found a smaller quantity here
Silver heart bead (optional)
Round nose pliers
Wire cutters
Needle nose pliers
5/8" circle hole punch (optional)
Judkins Diamond glaze or Inkssentials Glossy Accents

I made the round charms first. One side had the picture of the ripples and said "Make a difference"The other side had a picture of a pebble and said "Be A Peacemaker".Here is my 4x6 page of the picture if you want to use it:Using your hole punch, punch out the images to fit in the charm. Glue the picture in one side of the charm and cover generously with Diamond Glaze or Glossy Accent. Let dry for at least 6 hours before doing the other side. Once dry flip the charm over and glue the other image on this side. Cover with Diamond Glaze and let dry.

Put your stone bead on your pin and using your round nose pliers make a circle at the top of the pin. With your needle nose pliers open the Circle up, put your round charm in the circle, then put it through the bookmark. Close your Circle and you are done. I added a heart bead by using another pin. I did not want the heart to hang down like I wanted the stone to so I cut the excess pin off with wire cutters making the circle end right above the bead. Then I opened the circle with my needle nose pliers and placed it on the bookmark.

This sounds harder than it really is.

Super Saturday Watches

As I said before I have been really busy. I thought I would show you some of what I have been doing. I thought I would start with "Souper Saturday". For those of you that don't know what "Souper Saturday" is I will tell you. This happens once a year in most LDS Wards. The Relief Society (Women's Organization) gets together and are able to make all sorts of crafts and foods. We also have Soup for lunch. That is why it is called "Souper Saturday". It is really fun!! This was on November 7th and was a huge project for me!! I think I spent as much time on preparing packets for this as I did on my Holiday Boutique I had last weekend. But it was really fun and great to get to know some new people in my ward. I also think that everyone was happy with their purchases and had fun learning something new. I was so busy this day that I was not able to make any of the other cute things that were being made :( In a future post I will give step by step instructions on how to make these bands. They are easy and way cute! I was able to find the big watch faces for around $6.00 because of the big quantity I was ordering and the band kits were $5-$6. The best place to buy a face if you don't need a large quantity is Ben Franklin Craft they are $8.00+tax. Here are the Bands they were able to make. They could pick any face they wanted so most didn't have these same faces I have put with them. I also made these two smaller watches and they were $3-$4.50. This included the face so these where quite popular. There was a huge response and this is why it took me so long to put the packets together. Overall I did pretty good, there were just a couple of kits that did not have all the beads, and I made over 100 packets. I think these will be lots of Christmas Presents!

I have been so busy the past couple of week and will be for the next two. I probably won't be posting anything until after then. I am in charge of teaching my ward how to make cute bead watch bands at "Souper Saturday" November 7th and then have a boutique I'm making all sorts of jewelry for on November 13-14th. So this takes up all my spare time. But the good news is I will have lots to blog about once this is over. I'll be able to show you how to make all sorts of fun stuff!

Lisa has been doing a great job with this blog. I desided to finally make a contribution. I made this cute sign for Christmas at my Relief Society Super Saturday. It was very easy.

Cut out the letters B E L I E V E on thick black paper using a Cricut (if you don't have one then you can just trace the letters and cut them out). It is fun to make them different sizes.
Use different sizes of blocks of wood that will fit your letters and paint them black.
Cut out 7 rectangles from Christmas themed scrapbook paper. One to fit each of your blocks.
Mod Podge the rectangles of papers onto your blocks. Let them dry.
Put mod podge on the back of your black letters and but on blocks. Then mod podge over the entire surface.
Once done and dried embellish the letters like this:

B: tie a ribbon around the block

E: Put on some Christmas Holly cut out of green
scrapbook paper. Used red stick balls for berries.
Then put green glitter down the middle of leaves.
L: Nothing
I: Put white glitter on my white stripes.
E: Put 2 red dots on bottom of E.
V: Using glue dots, but on a metal star.
E: Tied ribbon around.

BOO!

I made this cute BOO Sign the other day! It is so easy I had to share it with you. We had some wood left over from the construction in our basement. I took three pieces of the left over wood sanded the edges, painted it black, and Mod Podged the paper letters on. Easy as can be! I used my Cricut to cut the letters from 3 different Halloween scrapbook papers. If you don't have a Cricut you can trace the letters and cut them out by hand. This is a cheap, cute, easy decoration for HALLOWEEN!!

Shine the Light

I had the privilege of teaching all the YW last Sunday about modesty. This is a hard subject. You don't want to just tell them you can't wear this or that so I decided to go about it a different way. I talked to them about how they should want to be treated like a person and not a body, and how they should let their light shine! I wanted them to want to be a daughter of God like President Hinckley was talking about in this great quote. "Of all the creations of the Almighty there is none more beautiful, none more inspiring than a lovely daughter of God who walks in virtue with an understanding of why she should do so, who honors and respects her body as a thing sacred and divine, who cultivates her mind and constantly enlarges the horizon of her understanding, who nurtures her spirit with everlasting truth."
My sister helped me make this great video of their pictures.

I made these cute candles for each of the girls.

I found the candles at Micheals on clearance for $0.50 for a package of two. I used my cruicut to cut out the "Shine the Light!" vinyl lettering. I think they turned out way cute, and they did not cost a lot of money!!

Gingersnaps

2 C. Brown Sugar
1 C. Shortening
1/2 C. Molasses
4 Eggs
5 C. Flour
2 Tsp. Baking Soda
2 Tsp. Ginger
2 Tsp. Cinnamon
1 Tsp. Salt
1/2 Tsp. Cloves

Mix ingredients and roll into balls. Then roll balls in sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 9 minutes. Cookies will fall and "crack" a little after removing from oven.

New Beehive Packet

I had my first New Beehive last Sunday. I put together this packet for her to let her know what happens in YW's. It has a Personal Progress Book (and the Virtue Booklet), the Personal Progress Journal, For the Strength of Youth Pamphlet, True to the Faith book, For the Strength of Youth and Stand for Truth and Righteousness pocket cards. My cute Advisor had given out these cute bookmarks in her lesson so I grabbed an extra one and put it in.I also found a this letter on Sugardoodle. I liked most of it but needed to change and add some things and this is what I came up with:

I also made this cute necklace for herI will have to do a post on how to make Glass Tile Necklaces another day but the necklace holder is easy. I found this cute word art HERE. Made it the size I needed, colored a few words red and printed it on card stock. Then I cut two slants in the sides of the card stock and taped the chain to the back.

I put everything together and tied with a cute red ribbon. It think it turned out way cute and the new beehive loved it!!

Easy Steak Stroganoff!

1/2 pound Top Sirloin Steak
(cut in small pieces)
1/2 cup water
Simmer the meat and water in a covered skillet for 5 minutes.
1 packet of Beef Stroganoff Mix
2 cups water
2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
2 cans (4oz.) Mushrooms, drained
Combine above ingredients mix and add to Steak in skillet. Simmer for 10 minutes. Add 1 (8oz) cream cheese. Remove from heat. Let cream cheese melt into stroganoff and serve over egg noodles.

Fast a yummy dinner my kids will all eat (and they are very picky)!

Alicia's Love Earrings!

My cute Alicia designed these earrings for her friend Sammie.

They are really simple to make!!
You need:
2 Earring Hooks
2 Love Charms
4 Seed Beads (color of your choice)
2 Eye Pins or Wire if you want to make your own
First attached the Love charm on the eye hook. Then we put the seed beads on the wire. Make another loop at the top of the seed beads with round nose pliers. Cut the extra wire off with our wire cutters. This is what it looks like:Repeat the above steps for the second earring. Then hook the charm onto the earring hooks.
I think they turned out way cute and Sammie loved them.
Here is another variation you can do with any charm. This is the easiest way to make a pair of earring!!You just attach the charm straight to the earring hook!Don't they turn out way cute!!

Yummy Salsa!!

My Mother-in-Law gave me this recipe last year and it is my favorite! It is so yummy!
1/4 Bunch Cilantro (diced)
4 Tomatoes (diced)
3 Avacados (diced)
3 Green Onions (diced)
1 Can Baby White Sweet Corn
1 Can Black Eyed Peas
1 pkt Good Seasons Italian Dressing (Made as directed)
Use 1/2 of the dressing
1/4 Cup Sugar
Salt to taste

This is a sweet salsa and one of my favorite recipes!

Stamped Washer Necklace

Supplies:

Stamped Washer
Black Hemp
Bead
2 Crimp Beads
Clasp
Long Nose Pliers

Step One: Tie this knot around the washer

Step 2: but the bead on both strings so final result is this :

Step 3: Put the crimp bead on the end of the Hemp then the clasp. Next put the end of the Hemp back through the crimp bead. Crimp the bead and repeat on the other side. (If you don't have crimp beads or long nose pliers you can always tie a square knot to hold the clasp on!)

Here is the finished necklace. They turn out cute and are a good cheap craft for older kids!!

Stamping Washers

You will need:
1/8" steel stamping set from here
Hammer
Washers
Sharpie
Baby Wipes

(Isaac my 5 year old took this picture! Didn't he do a great job!!)
Step 1: Stamp your washer with the letters.
Tips: Stamp on cement! It needs the hard surface to stamp well. Try to only have to hit the letter once so it does not leave multiple impressions. So hit it hard with the hammer!

Step 2: Color with Sharpie over stamped letters. It is also fun to use different color Shapies.

Step 3: Wipe off with baby wipe (I'm sure you could use clorox wipes if you don't have baby wipes).

I used these as an embellishment on this project.
Here is a cute way to make them necklaces.

Butterfly

Last week in YW our lesson was on Living Righteously Amid Pressures. What a great topic! I found this great Butterfly story at Sugardoodle (a great website for lots of YW lesson helps).

"A girl saw a caterpillar struggling to break free from its cocoon, so she decided to help it by gently peeling away the cocoon for the new butterfly. Over the next few days she watched as it came out more easily, but its body was much bigger than usual and its wings were weak and fragile. It couldn't fly. The pressure to squeeze out of the small cocoon pushes blood to the wings and completes the process of the developing butterfly. In this same way pressure and trials of faith can make us strong."

The Lord loves all of his children, wants us to succeed, and has not left us to flounder helplessly. However, he also wants us to learn from our experiences so we might have the knowledge and courage to act righteously more frequently.

I made them these cut butterflies to take home to remember this great message. I used this great Butterfly saying I found here (I Love this site!!!) Cut out cute scrapbook paper and some cardboard in the shape of a butterfly. Glue the cardboard and scrapbook papers together then glue the sayings on. I also used a few embellishments. I love these messages and have one of these cute butterflies on my refrigerator!

Our Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to come closer to him through our trials and the pressures of this life!

Halloween Jello

I was at All-A-Dollar the other day and found these cute ice cube trays.

I decided it would be fun to make Jello in them!They turned out great!One big box of Jello made with 2 cups of water (jiggler style) fills 4 trays.Once the Jello is set make sure you put the molds in warm water to loosen the Jello.
Easy as can be!
It would also be cute to color your water with food coloring and make fun ice cubes!
My kids love them!!!

Locker Magnets and Pencil Box

My cute YW wanted to make some pencil boxes and magnets for the lockers at school. So I needed to come up with a way to make them. It took me lots of shopping to finally come up with this. I looked everywhere for a cheap flat box. I could not find one so I ended up getting these at Hobby Lobby for $1.00.Now I needed to find a way to cut the tops off to make them squares. I tried a couple different ways. I tried the table saw and jig saw but they ended up tearing them up a little more that I liked. The way I found that was best, and really the easiest, was to take a knife and score them. I used a ruler while doing this, to make sure they were straight. Then just snap them off. They turned out great this way, and I did not even need to sand the ones I had scored.
Here is a list of the rest of the supplies you will need:
Paint Brush
Paint
Mod Podge
(I like the flat kind it does not leave lines like the glossy)
Magnets
Clear Glass Rocks
(I got these at Ben Franklin they had fun big ones!)
E6000 Glue or Hot Glue Gun
Sand Paper
Scrapbook Paper
Optional: Ribbon and embellishments
It is really simple to make the magnets. Choose your scrapbook paper and trace the Rock on the paper. Cut the paper just inside your traced line. You can glue the paper to the back of the rock two ways. You can put some E-6000 on the back of the rock and push the paper on making sure there are no bubbles. (if you look at my picture close I did not do this very well on one of them) Make sure to wipe off the glue that comes out the edges. You can also use Mod Podge Just paint the Mod Podge on the back of your rock and put your paper on. This is the way we did it with the girls because it is easier and less messy! When the glue is dry take your hot glue gun or your E-6000 and glue your magnet on the back.The pencil box was fun! First you paint the box the color you want. After the paint is dry you trace your pencil box on your scrapbook paper. Cut this out on the traced line. Put some mod podge on the box the place the scrapbook paper on. It does not matter if the paper is a little bigger than the box. After the mod podge is dry take your sand paper and sand the edges around the paper to make it fit and look fun. Next paint mod podge over the entire box. I used some ribbon and had stamped some washers to embellish the box. But you can do so many things! Have fun making it your own. Once all is done you will need to glue at least four 1/2" magnets (spread out evenly) on the back so it will stay on the locker or refrigerator while full of pencils.

Really Easy Earrings!!

Look how cute these earrings turned out!
These are the supplies you will need for one pair of earrings:
beads of your choice
2 head pins
2 earring hooks
2 of these earring shapes

They come in all different shapes and colors!
A simple set of tools that you can pick up at most any craft store for under $10.00. This set comes with: Cutter Pliers, round nose pliers, and long nose pliers.

The first thing you need to do is to put your bead or beads on the head pin. Once you have done that you take your round nose pliers and make a circle at the top of the bead to put it on the Earring shape. Cut the excess wire off and put it on the earring shape. The next step is attaching them to the earring hook. You can to this two ways. The way I did it is I took my long nose pliers and opened up the loop on the bottom of the earring hook and put the earring shape on that directly. You could also use a jump ring to attach them.

These earrings are so easy to make. It takes probably 5-10 minutes to make a pair. Have fun creating!

It only took me two week to decide on a name! Thanks Karen and Christine for your opinions. I'm excited to start this new blog. I will be sharing the things I make! I love creating things. I am in YW's in my ward and do lots of fun stuff with them. The girls are fun, and full of great ideas that make me think (think of ways for them to make their ideas). So tomorrow I'll be designing my blog and hope to post at least one fun idea for you!
